One thing I’ve noticed about my sleep is if I exercise during the day I have much better sleep. Significantly better sleep. When I worked at the nursery I got 6.5 hrs sleep but always had 1 hr Deep sleep and REM sleep. I now generally sleep 7.5 hrs to 8 and get the same or worse sleep. I’m wasting 1.5 hrs of the day and getting worse sleep because I’m not as active as I was. My new desk job has been horrible for my health. I am pretty sure if I had done this for a living prior I would be in a deep health crisis. The body is not meant to sit at a desk all day. It’s not meant to stare at a screen all day. It will kill you slowly if you don’t offset.
Another test was moving to altitude and it showed the effects of a sedentary lifestyle. Unless I put in a good run or hike my sleep is horrible. To the point, you wait up exhausted if you DON’T have a hard day. Part of good health is having baselines and monitoring changes and their effects. I can see things falling apart. I have a lot of work to do. I have a busy travel schedule the next few weeks but once that is over I will have to revamp my workouts and frequency completely.
