Travis bailed me out on Friday. I was driving Friday morning and realized I hadn’t written the list for the day. I look through expired names every day but Thursday was a day that took me out of my routine. Work was busy, I was leaving for Colorado for a month or two and hadn’t even packed, I had 5 things I had to do for other people before I left. All I could think about was work, being prepared to go, and trying not to forget anything. Next thing you know I’m on the road, forgot a few key things, and hadn’t written the list.
Good news, made it safely and got into town in time to watch the Leadville 100. 100 miles with 50,000 feet of elevation change. One of the toughest races in the world. It was perfect weather and the winner broke a 19-year-old record for the fastest time. He ran up and down mountains for almost 16 hrs straight at a pace most would find an amazing half-marathon pace. One of the most incredible feats of endurance. Even more impressive were the people that finished in 29 hrs. Barely ahead of the 30 hr cutoff. The looks on their faces showed their toughness, their weakness, their drive and their defeat. You could see it all in their faces and their strides. Yet the finished. I’m not sure whether it inspired me to try or confirmed I shouldn’t
