Internet of Things (IOT) Industry Domain Names

YOUR AD HERE

Good you brought this up DG. IOT is without a doubt the future and with it a whole new niche is going to birth. New gadgets, new devices, magazines, publications, professional experts etc you get the picture? There would be more robotics, more commercial /industrial drones, more interactive brands, more big data.

I tried registering a few iot names earlier this year but they were all taken. Only interested in coms. Interactivebrands.co.uk is a good one and was available last time I checked so if anyone is interested in that they should grab it

Have you heard of WhiteSpace? WhiteSpace is definitely the technology that would power iot and is the future of wireless communication. Its surprising we haven`t started talking about it here. I haven`t seen any posts about it anyway. I have a few whitespace names. Hope they go for decent prices when the technology really takes off.

I only regged two.

This is a difficult term, simply because "iot" is not very appealing (aesthetically) and doesn't typically play well with other letters (The few that work well are already regged and have been for some time).

Therefore, it's more of a one-trick pony, so, should this trend/term fizzle, most iot domains will be worthless.

But I had some cheapie GD coupons and found two LLLLL that could be something relevant: one that could be an iot brandable and one that suggests a "q & a" site about iot:

*

If every device will have an ID number, it'll be known as "IDiot"?

Just kidding :)

Internet of Things (IOT) names are a flash in the pan. Putting iot in front of a keyword will not equal buyers.

Good one, Primerlloc.

Our local Sears has on display a refrigerator that is wired to the internet. It's a great curiosity -- also very expensive.

So, then, if your refrig gets hacked, what happens to the frozen meat? Does it get purloined by thieves?

Also, does that mean strangers can watch that gross mold growing in the back of the celery and post photos of it on Facebook or Snapchat?

Has Sears no shame?

Says who?

I picked up 3 iot/ioe names that are bound to have some value no matter what happens:

IOEdomainnames.com
IOEdomains.com
IOTdomainnames.com

:sold:

Just saw this Time Magazine article for the "Internet of Everything" (IoE):

So take care when registering IoT or IoE domains (I did reg IOEqa.com and IOTqa.com, but I'm not going to go whole hog on this trend).

There is a good chance that another term will prevail, such as "All Things Connected," simply because it's more intuitive.

But who really knows?

UPDATE: Aha! I just discovered that Cisco, who coined the IOE term, owns IOE.com.

This explains a lot, LOL

:p:o:|

I have some IOT names but I am not going to invest too much in this trend as I don't know enough about it yet.

But who really knows?

Maybe it's the 'Planet of Things' or the 'Planet of Everything'! ;)

Maybe it is just me, however "The Internet of Everything" doesn't really roll off the tongue, and I feel the common man/woman won't adopt it as a tech trend because it's meaning just isn't clear enough.

IOT is absolutely not a consumer play Al, you are right. I did a piece that showed how Cisco acquired IOE in stealth mode, IOE is the term they are using to control their branding.

Mike did a story the other day about IOT.com and it having a price tag of $2.8 million. The Internet of Things has become a very hot topic over the last couple years, Cisco has also been busy branding the Internet of Everything or IOE. IOE.com is now owned by Cisco although the sale was never made public. The name back in the day was first owned by the International Oceanic Enterprises of Alabama, they were a seafood company doing business as Master Marine. They subsequently let the registration lapse and in 2003 the name had a new registration date and Buy Domains was the registrant. In June of 2007 the domain is now owned by TopNames.com out of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The domain is then flipped a few months later to Poise Media who held the domain to August of 2013 when the registrant changes to a Layla Winkler. I have done research and don’t believe Ms. Winkler has any real connections to the domaining business, she seems to be a consultant involved in social media and doing online searches for companies needing those services. While under the ownership of Ms. Winkler she changes the name servers to Cisco.com. The whois changed the beginning of this year and the name left ENOM and is now at Mark Monitor with Cisco as the registrant.

So it appears that Cisco went into stealth mode and purchased a name that I believe is very valuable to them. The kind of name that if Mike or Rick owned they might have extrapolated maximum value. Who knows maybe Poise Media did as the sale price has not been published, so I hope they made a big score.

Why is this name so value ? Cisco is putting a lot of marketing and manpower behind the Internet of Everything. They see it generating Trillions with a T!

Some have asked what is the real difference between IOT and IOE ?

I missed this story -- I was in sunny Florida at the time :)

But, yes, IoE seems a bit inorganic, so we'll see how that marketing ploy turns out for Cisco.

i have a few iot names but hadn't given any thought to ioe until i read this so had to get a couple of them too.

ioechat.com
ioesafety.com
ioeupdates.com

I just sold iotsafety.com so maybe I'lll have similiar luck with the ioe.

I just completed the sale of iotsafety.com for $399, not a bad return on a hangreg. I think iot will stay popular until they coin a better phrase for it.

Congrats!

A couple of things that interest me about Internet Of Things as a domainer are:

A) The large number of Chinese registrations of IOT domains over the last 12 months. It doesn't take much research to discover that China are to invest heavily in IOT (let alone the big multinationals), and they seem to have already latched on to IOT as the acronym to invest in.

B) That IOT is not even a 'future trend', it's already begun, and yet there are still so many cool reg's available, more than I can afford to buy on top of all the other bloody tech related domains I already own!

To sum up, my prediction is that China will start to snap up IOT domains like they do numericals, Internet Of Things SPEAKS to them, and just to prove it, guess who bought iotsafety.com from Salvador5266 above me? A Mr J Dong from Beijing.

I do not understand this IOT thing at all. Are you looking for IOT + any keyword? It doesn't make sense to me.
