How I am Using DomainLeads.com

Michael Cyger introduced me to DomainLeads.com, a recently launched domain industry tool created by the company operating Estibot. DomainLeads.com is a tool that helps identify the number of registered and developed TLDs (extensions) in specific SLDs (keywords or phrases). For instance, I can see the Logical SLD is registered in 134 extensions, and 13 of those are developed websites.

I think this data is critically important when it comes to understanding potential prospective buyers and determining the value of the .com domain name.

The most obvious way to use DomainLeads.com is for lead generation. Companies operating a business on alternative extensions may be interested in acquiring the .com domain name. Further, companies operating on longer domain names – particularly where the shorter domain name would be ideal – may wish to acquire the shorter domain name. Users can easily see the best prospective buyers and use that information to find decision makers at those companies to pitch their domain names.

I will probably use this tool for lead generation, but I have been using it more for identifying domain names to buy. Each morning for the past few days, I’ve been entering names I am interested in buying and seeing the results. The more developed extensions in a SLD the better chance one of those businesses will eventually wish to upgrade to the .com. In addition, I can make some valuation guesses based on the qualitative data this yields.

When looking at domain names to bid on or buy, there is much more to simply seeing which names have the most development in other TLDs. The number of developed TLDs is a good indicator of the value of a SLD, and owning the matching .com tends to be the best bet.

Right now, I believe this tool is free to use since I have been using it without logging in to my Estibot account. I would imagine it won’t remain free forever.

The one thing I would change about this tool is a wider scroll bar.
