MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – Google has recently integrated native support for wallet balances of Ethereum Name Services (ENS) domains in its search results, a move that should simplify the process of sending and receiving funds on the part of cryptocurrency holders by substituting standard – and, thus, easier to remember – domain names in the place of the complicated wallet addresses commonly associated with blockchain-specific domains.
ENS translates computer identifiers into human-readable names that can, in turn, be linked to Ethereum wallets. An example of such a name would be “example.eth.”
Google originally added native support for Ethereum wallet balances in May 2023, which allowed users to directly view wallet balances after searching for specific public addresses; this newest development sees the internet search giant expanding this functionality to ENS-related domains.
With this new support, users can do a Google search for an ENS domain and the results will return the blockchain-specific address and the current balance – as of the last external transaction – of its associated Ethereum wallet, sourced directly from Etherscan.
However, as with any new tech feature, there are always kinks to be worked out. Some users have said that the Ethereum wallet support feature is currently inconsistent in terms of the results it provides; at times, the searched-for address does not appear in results, despite being a legitimate address. Experts associated with the development of the new search functionality have said that current work-arounds include logging out of Google services or utilizing the private browsing mode of Google Chrome or any other internet browser you may be using.
Google has been adding more and more support for crypto and blockchain technology in recent years; on top of adding native support for search results involving Ethereum wallet balances and ENS data, the company has also added support for cryptocurrency-related content on its platform as the technology becomes more widely used by the mainstream.
