GoDaddy Airo: Our tool creates jobs, doesn’t eliminate them

A press release by GoDaddy about GoDaddy Airo, makes a bold claim: “For every website published using GoDaddy Airo™ 20 jobs are created.”

GoDaddy Airo is an under-development, AI-driven home-grown tool by GoDaddy that automates some functions of building, rolling out, and maintaining online presence for small businesses.

GoDaddy believes it’s the next best thing since sliced bread.

Somehow, the press release asserts that 10 new GoDaddy published web sites per (US) county are associated with 0.017% reduction in unemployment rates.

To quantify these numbers, that’s less than 1/50 of 1%. A 0.017 percentage-point reduction in unemployment per 10 websites is minuscule. In real terms, this impact might be statistically insignificant.

The press release notes:

“According to the (GoDaddy) research, the rollout of Airo is correlated with increases in job creation and reductions in unemployment at the local level.”

This phrasing is carefully worded—correlated does not mean caused by.

Says the press release:

“For every website published using GoDaddy Airo, 20 jobs were created per county, with rural counties seeing an average of 4.2 jobs and urban counties experiencing a boost of 22 jobs.”

These figures could suggest that other economic factors are at play rather than GoDaddy Airo itself. Could business-friendly policies, local economic recovery or industry trends be more responsible for the reported job creation?

While GoDaddy Airo may provide benefits for small businesses, the claim that GoDaddy Airo creates jobs is unproven as automation often replaces labor.

Of course, you can try GoDaddy Airo for yourself and let us know how many jobs it created in your Microbusiness cluster!
