General Availability

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Late last week, five new top-level domains (TLDs) were made available for early access registration, spanning a variety of different uses and covering topics that are designed to appeal to very specific audiences.

The five TLDs in question are .diy, .food, .living, .lifestyle, and .vana, all of which were acquired late last year by Internet Naming Co. from Lifestyle Domain Holdings, which was the previous owner but had not yet launched the domains.

As per the norm for many new domains in the industry, early-access pricing for the five TLDS started out high and gradually decreased day-by-day until they reached their general availability pricing, which took place on March 6.

On the first day of early access, domain registrar 101Domain was charging $29,999; the second day, that price dropped to $11,999, followed by $6,299 on day three, $3,299 on day four, $1,399 on day five, and $699 on day six. But now that general availability pricing has kicked in, these new TLDs can be acquired for $44.99.

Despite whether users paid early access or general availability prices, they both will be paying standard renewal rates going forward.

As for the domains themselves, their intended uses are as follows:

  • .diy is short for “Do It Yourself,” and is geared towards crafters, builders, and makers.
  • .food, as you might guess, was created for those who work in the food industry, ranging anywhere from chefs and food bloggers to supermarkets, restaurants, or nutrition websites.
  • .living and .lifestyle are two related TLDs that are intended for use by those creating lifestyle content or running lifestyle-related businesses, such as health, travel, or interior design.
  • .vana Is a first-of-its-kind blockchain domain, which is designed to seamlessly integrate both the Domain Name System (DNS) and Web3 space, while strictly adhering to all regulations and guidelines instituted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the nonprofit organization that oversees the domain industry.
