Expired while on sale — is it a bad name or too high of a price point?

I’m eyeing an expired / closeout domain that is currently on sale for $25k! I see this and think, 1) shit — this name will never sell; don’t buy it. Or, 2) that’s a ridiculous price tag. Surely it’ll sell at half or quarter of that price… or will it? Perhaps the price wasn’t the issue.

I’ve encountered something like this many times now. How many of you wouldn’t buy an expiring domain if you learned it was already on sale by its current owner? Might you think the high price point was the issue?
