Company forms partnership with plans to go after two new top level domain names.

Blockchain company 3DNS (not to be confused with D3) and the .box top level domain announced a partnership with Optimism to apply for .chain and .super in the next round of ICANN’s new top level domain name expansion. Optimism is an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution.

The partnership will initially launch a third level domain solution on .box so that people can register subdomains at .chain.box and .super.box. If it gets the top level domains from ICANN, it will then be able to offer example.chain and example.super domains. Presumably, the group plans to offer some sort of priority to people who register third level domain names ahead of time.

.Chain will surely be a contested top level domain name in the next round. In its release announcing the partnership, 3DNS noted that it intends to pursue the domains in the “upcoming ICANN gTLD auction.”
